Annual Peach-Apricot Nasturtium Seeds – Tropaeolum majus – Compact Edible Peppery Blooms & Lily Pad Foliage

🌸 Delicate Peach-Apricot Edible Blooms with Dramatic Starburst Veins in a Compact Habit

Bring a soft, elegant, edible splash of color to your patio containers, window boxes, and small garden beds with our Annual Dwarf Peach-Apricot Nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus) Seeds. This stunning dwarf variety produces spectacular, wide-open, spurred blooms in a delicate, soft peach, apricot, and pale cream color palette. A prominent, bright yellow throat is marked with dramatic, deep maroon/red veins that radiate outward like a starburst into the petals, creating an intricate, elegant, and eye-catching display that immediately brightens up any space from early summer until the first frost.

🌱How to Plant & Grow

  • Light Requirements: Full sun to partial shade (6+ hours of direct sun per day for best blooming). In very hot Southern zones, afternoon shade is appreciated to extend blooming.
  • Soil Type:  Well-drained, average to poor, sandy or gravelly soil. Crucial:Nasturtiums thrive in poor, lean soil. Overly rich or heavily fertilized soil will produce lush green leaves at the expense of flowers.
  • Germination Time: 7–14 days at 65–75°F (18–24°C). Seeds are large and easy to handle.
  • Days to Maturity:  60–75 days from seed to first bloom.
  • Mature Height: 6–10 feet (vining/trailing). Spread: 12–24 inches.

📏Spacing & Seeding Instructions

  • Plant Spacing: Space plants 10 to 12 inches apart at the base of the trellis or hanging basket.
  • Seeding Density (Per Square Foot):  For dense trailing coverage in baskets or beds, sow 2–3 seeds per square foot.
  • Sowing Depth: Sow seeds ½ inch deep. Cover firmly with soil. They do not require light to germinate.

Important Note: Nasturtiums are frost-tender. Do not plant outdoors until the soil temperature has consistently reached at least 60°F (15°C) and all danger of frost has completely passed. Because they have a delicate taproot that dislikes transplanting, direct sowing is highly recommended for the best results. If starting indoors, use biodegradable pots to avoid root shock.

🧑🌾 Step-by-Step Planting Instructions

Start Indoors (Use Biodegradable Pots):

  • Fill biodegradable peat pots with moist, well-draining seed-starting mix.
  • Sow seeds ½ inch deep. Cover with soil and press down gently.
  • Place the tray in a warm area (65–75°F) with bright, indirect light. Keep the soil evenly moist.
  • Seedlings emerge in 7–14 days. Provide strong, direct sunlight immediately to prevent leggy growth.
  • After 4–6 weeks, when the seedlings have several sets of true leaves, gradually harden them off outdoors over 5–7 days before transplanting the entire biodegradable pot into the garden or hanging basket.

Direct Sow (Highly Recommended for best results):

  • Wait until the soil is warm and all frost danger has passed.
  • Prepare a well-drained bed or hanging basket in full sun to partial shade. Remove weeds and loosen the soil.
  • Sow seeds ½ inch deep, spacing them 4–6 inches apart in rows or around the edge of the hanging basket.
  • Water gently with a fine mist spray to avoid washing the seeds away. Keep the soil consistently moist until germination.
  • Once seedlings are 3–4 inches tall, thin them out, leaving the strongest plants spaced 10–12 inches apart.

Ongoing Care:

  • Watering: Water regularly during dry spells, especially when plants are young and during the blooming period. Keep the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged. Water deeply at the base.
  • Fertilizing: Do not fertilize. Nasturtiums thrive in poor soil. Over-fertilizing with nitrogen will encourage lush foliage at the expense of flowers.
  • Deadheading: Regularly deadhead (remove) spent blooms to encourage continuous, abundant blooming throughout the season.
  • Harvesting Edibles: Pick fresh flowers and young leaves as needed for salads and garnishes. Harvest young, green seed pods for pickling before they harden.
  • Overwintering: This is a tender annual. It will die back completely at the first hard frost. Allow the seed pods to dry on the vine and collect them to grow again next year!
