Annual / Perennial Pure White Moonflower Seeds – Ipomoea alba – Fragrant Night-Blooming Trumpet Vine with Heart-Shaped Foliage.

🌸 Magical Luminous Trumpets for Your Evening Garden & Moon Garden

Transform your evening patio, arbor, or moon garden into a glowing, fragrant oasis with our Pure White Moonflower (Ipomoea alba) Seeds. Also known as Moon Vine, this spectacular tropical twining vine produces large, luminous, pure white trumpet-shaped blooms that are truly magical. During the day, the delicate, pleated petals remain folded into a tight spiral; as dusk falls, they unfurl dramatically—often in just minutes!—to reveal glowing white trumpets with a subtle yellow-green center that seem to float in the darkness.

As the flowers open, they release an intoxicating, sweet, and heady perfume that fills the evening air, creating a sensory experience like no other. This enchanting fragrance and luminous white color are designed to attract night-flying pollinators, especially the magnificent sphinx moths, making it a top-tier choice for nocturnal wildlife gardens. Incredibly fast-growing, this vigorous twining vine can climb 10–15 feet in a single season, quickly covering trellises, arbors, and fences with lush, heart-shaped foliage. Easy to grow and breathtakingly beautiful, this pure white moonflower is an absolute essential for every American moon garden, patio, and evening landscape!

🌱How to Plant & Grow

  • Light Requirements:  Full sun (6–8+ hours of direct sun per day is essential for vigorous growth and profuse blooming). Morning or afternoon shade is tolerated but will reduce bloom quantity.
  • Soil Type:  Well-draining, fertile, moderately moist soil. Prefers rich, loamy, slightly acidic soil. Avoid heavy, waterlogged clay.
  • Germination Time: 7–21 days at 70–80°F (21–27°C). Crucial: Seeds have a hard seed coat and require scarification (nicking or soaking) to germinate.
  • Days to Maturity: 80–120 days from seed to first bloom. (Vines grow very fast; blooms typically begin in midsummer and continue until frost.
  • Mature Height: 10–15+ feet (climbing). Spread: 3–5 feet (climbing width).

📏Spacing & Seeding Instructions

  • Plant Spacing: Space plants 12 to 18 inches apart at the base of the trellis/fence.
  • Seeding Density (Per Square Foot):  For dense trellis coverage, sow 2–3 seeds per foot of trellis base.
  • Sowing Depth: Sow seeds ¼ inch deep. Cover lightly with soil.

Important Note: Moonflower is frost-tender. Do not plant outdoors until the soil temperature has consistently reached at least 65°F (18°C) and all danger of frost has completely passed. In warmer Zones, direct sowing is the easiest method. In cooler zones, start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost to get a head start on the long vines.

🧑🌾 Step-by-Step Planting Instructions

Start Indoors (Recommended for cooler zones for earlier blooms):

  • After soaking/nicking seeds, fill biodegradable peat pots or seed trays with moist, well-draining seed-starting mix.
  • Sow seeds ¼ inch deep. Cover gently with soil and press down.
  • Place the tray in a warm area (70–80°F) with bright, indirect light. Keep the soil evenly moist.
  • Seedlings emerge in 7–21 days. Provide strong, direct sunlight immediately to prevent leggy growth.
  • After 4–6 weeks, when the seedlings have several sets of true leaves, gradually harden them off outdoors over 5–7 days before transplanting them into the garden at the base of your trellis or arbor.

Direct Sow (The easiest method for Zones 7–11):

  • Wait until the soil is warm and all frost danger has passed.
  • Prepare a well-drained bed in full sun at the base of your trellis, fence, or arbor. Remove all weeds and loosen the soil deeply.
  • After soaking/nicking seeds, sow them ¼ inch deep, spacing seeds 6–8 inches apart in a row at the base of the support.
  • Water gently with a fine mist spray to avoid washing the seeds away. Keep the soil consistently moist until germination.
  • Once seedlings are 4–6 inches tall, thin them out, leaving the strongest plants spaced 12–18 inches apart at the base.

Ongoing Care:

  • Watering: Water regularly during dry spells, especially when plants are young and during the blooming period. These vines are heavy drinkers; keep the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged. Water deeply at the base.
  • Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer at planting time, and side-dress with compost or a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season to encourage lush growth and abundant blooms.
  • Training: The vines will naturally twine around the trellis or fence. You may need to gently guide the young vines onto the support structure in the beginning.
  • Deadheading & Maintenance: Regularly remove spent blooms to keep the vine looking tidy. The vine will produce numerous blooms at the tips of new growth throughout the season.
  • Overwintering: In Zones 10-11, the plant is a woody evergreen perennial and will remain year-round. In Zones 3-9, it is a tender annual. It will die back completely at the first hard frost. Collect the seeds from the dried seed pods in the fall to grow again next year!
